Barcelona 2021-22 Stats: The Full-Backs

Barcelona have had a tough season, both in the Spanish La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. The Catalans are currently ninth in the league standings with just 17 points from their 12 games. They have had problems in both attack and defense and have just won four league games so far. They are 10 points behind Real Madrid, who are second, and 11 behind leaders Real Sociedad, who have played 13 games and are six points away from fourth-placed Atletico Madrid. They have made a comeback to the second spot in the UCL after beating Dynamo Kyiv twice.

Recently, they replaced manager Ronald Koeman with club legend Xavi Hernández, who has taken over and is looking to turn around the club’s season. The defense has been the biggest problem for the Catalans, and Xavi will have to make his team better defensively to stop leaking goals and win games. The full-backs play a very important role in a  team like Barca, and in this post, we will look at the stats of some of the full-backs playing for FCB.

Barcelona 2021-22 Stats: The Full-Backs

The above viz shows the attacking dashboard of left-back Jordi Alba for the Catalans in their UEFA Champions League games. It is visible that UCL has not been a great competition for them, losing both their first two games 0-3 and a couple of 1-0 wins over Dynamo Kyiv. The left-back has proven to be the best in the world in a lot of years and has been a king of assisting goals all over the year. But with the current problems faced by the Spanish club, his form has also been declining. He is there to be a coach for the younger full-backs as well, which he will be doing very well.

The black line in the viz shows the average value of the stat for various defenders in the UCL. It can be seen that in terms of the UCL, Jordi Alba has been a below-average full-back this season, but will hope to come back in form with the coming of Xavi at the club’s helm. The assist master has already provided four assists in the league this season, and will be hoping for many more.

Xavi Hernandez has a lot of talent at his disposal at Barcelona, and everyone is hoping that he makes the best out of them and leads Barcelona to a much higher finish in both the league and the UCL.
