Lots of fans around the world expected El classico, and millions gathered in front of their TV-screens. However, the livescores of that match was frankly disappointing, as well as the performance of Barcelona and Real Madrid, which ended in a goalless draw. There were not enough attacking moments in the game, and experts seriously criticized the approach of the head coaches – Ernesto Valverde and Zinedine Zidane – who focused on defensive game and more in the midfield zone.
Despite this, the series of similar results of the eternal rivals came to its end – Barcelona confidently beat Alaves, while the Madrid grand didn’t cope with the strong Athletic Bilbao. Now the Catalans are the sole leader, but only 2 points separate them from the second position.
At the moment, the most prominent players in the team are:
- Lionel Messi – the Argentinean missed the start of the season but already managed to score 13 goals and provided 6 assists.
- Luis Suarez – even in spite of not the best form, the Uruguayan is always useful on the field and helps to unload Messi in the attack.
- Arturo Vidal – the Chilean unexpectedly joined the club this season and scored as many as 5 goals, constantly practicing in the midfield zone.
Frankie De Jong is at the high level, too. However, the Dutchman has not yet demonstrated his best qualities, but soon the livescores of the team may change because of him. Ernesto Valverde just needs to correctly use him on the field.
Champions League results of Barcelona
The Catalan team feels great in the best European competition, too. However, its Champions League results are noticeably different from perfect and usual for Barcelona, but the club managed to get to the playoffs from the first place. At the same time, the Blau Granas had not the easiest group, and they could even be kicked out to the Europa League.
The fans liked the recent game against Inter. Despite the absence of many stars, young talents and reservists managed to beat the strong and motivated Milanese. Because of this, Inter now went to conquer the Europa League, which was not entirely part of their plans. Barcelona will have to play with strong Napoli, which is experiencing recession and problems in the team, but approaches the final matches very seriously.
This was noted by the head coach Ernesto Valverde. The Spaniard didn’t want to repeat the past Champions League results and promised to properly motivate the team for both playoff games. The Catalans have more chances of getting into the quarterfinals Napoli, which is pretty expected, because Barcelona is among the favourites of winning the main trophy.
